Long-distance moves, state to state

Your friends are busy Saturday.

We’re not. Tell us about the move once and we’ll bring back written estimates from licensed long-distance movers — so nobody has to answer that group text.

Kind of move

Free written estimates. No obligation. About a minute.

A family watches from their front steps as three movers wheel a wrapped dresser up the pavement from a truck on a colourful city street

  • Licensed movers with a USDOT number you can check
  • Estimates in writing, not over the phone
  • No obligation to book anyone

We do the running around.

You keep your weekend and your friendships.

  1. Tell us about the move

Where you’re leaving, where you’re landing, roughly when, and how much there is. A minute, tops. No account.

  2. We make the calls

Our moving team gets rates from the licensed movers in our network and asks each for a written estimate.

  3. You compare and choose

Read them side by side at the kitchen table. Pick one, or pick none. Nothing is booked until you say so.

Featured movers · 8 listed

Our top picks and affiliated movers in our network.

Global Elegance Moving and Logistics shares ownership with 8 Top Movers.

Ratings shown are each company’s public Google rating, with the review count and the date we last checked it. We don’t collect, edit or weight them, and a mover’s rating has no effect on whether it appears here.

Check any mover before you book

  • Federal registration

Every mover we list shows its USDOT number. Look it up and see its operating status for yourself.

  • Insurance on file

The FMCSA record shows whether a mover’s required insurance is on file. Check it before you sign.

  • Authority for your route

Moves across state lines need federal household-goods authority. The FMCSA record shows it.

  • Estimate in writing

Get a written estimate you can hold and compare, not a number over the phone.

Don’t take our word for it. Look them up.

Every mover has a public DOT number. Type it into the federal safety database and read the record yourself, before you sign anything.

Things that turn out to be heavier than they look

  1. A box of books. Any box of books.
  2. The sofa that came in through a window.
  3. Your mother’s dresser, which is solid oak and is not moving.
  4. The favour you’re about to ask three people for.
Compare movers on my route
A family and their dog stand on the driveway staring up at a tall stack of luggage and a bicycle roped to the roof of their car
It fits. Getting it there is a separate question.
Three generations of a family kneel together in a sunlit living room laughing as a girl lifts a toy from a packing box

The whole household moves. Not just the boxes.

Kids who need their own beds put back together. Grandparents arriving Sunday. A dog with strong opinions about trucks. The truck is one moving part out of fifty.

Get the heavy part settled early and the rest of the week is yours.

Whatever you’re moving

Each kind of move has its own page, with what to ask about and a form for free estimates.

Questions people ask us

Straight answers, before you share anything.

Is this really free?

Yes. You never pay 8 Top Movers, and using our service does not raise the price of your estimate.

Who will contact me?

Our moving team, by phone, text, or email. They get rates from the licensed movers in our network, then go over the details and the written estimates with you.

How do I know the movers are licensed?

Each mover we list shows its USDOT number, with a link to check it yourself on the FMCSA’s SAFER website. Always check a mover’s registration and insurance before you book.

I’m not sure of my date or how much I have. Can I still ask?

Yes. Your best guess is fine. Our moving team will go over the details with you.

Is asking for estimates a commitment?

No. Asking is never a booking. You decide which mover to use, or not to use any of them.

Can I ask for packing, storage, or care for antiques?

Yes. Tell our moving team what you need, and it becomes part of the move details the movers price.

Top Movers is our separate editorial opinion of which movers do the job well, judged on pricing transparency, claims handling, delivery reliability and customer experience. It is an opinion, not a measured rating, and it is not for sale. Last reviewed September 2026.
